When it comes to your health goals, it all comes down to one thing:
Speed
Speed refers to three different qualities here:
1. How quickly do you recognize an issue?
In this context, I mean anything that prompts a desire for change.
2. How quickly do you take action?
Do you have a version of action that can take place immediately (or damn near)?
I don’t know about you but I find the idea of predicting the future to be very abstract. I honestly couldn’t tell you if long-term planning is worth a tinker’s damn—that is beyond its value as a clarifying principle for immediate feedback. In other words, having a five-year plan is cool—but only so far as it informs our decisions in the next few minutes.
3. How quickly do you successfully iterate?
Iteration means:
a) Evaluating success
b) Testing your process out against other solutions
c) Not being distracted by the fact that your solution is not yet perfect. Now or probably ever.
